What Are Carrara Marble Slabs?

Carrara marble is a metamorphic rock formed over millions of years through the transformation of limestone under intense heat and pressure deep within the earth. The Apuan Alps — the mountain range that frames the city of Carrara in northern Tuscany — contain some of the world’s purest and most consistently white marble deposits, a result of their unique mineralogical composition and geological history.

A Carrara marble slab is a large-format cut of this stone, typically ranging from 250 to 320 cm in length and 150 to 200 cm in width, produced by wire-sawing blocks extracted from the mountain and then cut and finished at a processing facility. The result is a single, continuous surface of natural stone that carries the veining, texture, and character formed by nature itself.

Carrara has been the world’s primary source of white marble since antiquity. Michelangelo selected Carrara stone for the Pietà. The Pantheon in Rome, the Cathedral of Pisa, and countless palaces across Europe were built with it. That heritage is not merely historical — it is present in every slab we supply.
